Kommunen ligg i ein geologisk region med relativt næringsfattige bergartar, floraen ber preg av dette. Det dominerande bildet i kommunen er dei transatlantiske lyngheiane i øyområdet, med innslag av purpurlyng. orkidéen flekkmarihånd er godt representert, men du kan óg finne andre spesielle plantar i områda med amfibolittiske bergartar. 

På grunn av den store nedbørsmengda i kommunen (norsk rekord - 5300 mm/år) har Gulen også ekstra mange typar av moser og lav. Soppsankarar har gode kår etter ein varmeperiode om hausten, kantarellane skin som ein solnedgang i skogbotnen. 

Bærproduksjonen i mang ei frodig li kan vere stor og er tilgjengeleg for alle.

Flora in Gulen municipality

The area is situated in a geological region containing a relatively low content of nutrition in the rock types which characterises the flora. The trans atlantic moors with the wild purple heather is the dominating picure of the area. One particular orchid is well represented, but other special plants are represented in areas with amphibolittic rock type. 

Due to the large quantity of rain in the area (Norwegian record - 5300 mm) there are different types of moss and lichen in Gulen. The area is good for those who like mushrooms. After a warm period in the autumn, the mushrooms shine like a sunset on the bottom of the forest grounds. 

The production of berries on the mountain sides can be extensive and picking is free for everybody.
